Focusing on changing the playing field of feminist art, this public service announcement was inspired by both the feminist movement of the 70's as well as the punk movement, which has never directly been linked to or considered a part of the feminist movement. Due to the fact that the punk movement was also very influential in its own way, I wanted to create a link between the two. In addition to pulling inspiration from the punk and feminist movements, there is also a take back of power in regards to the women of 1950s advertisements whose sole purpose was considered to sell product to either appease to men, or to be enjoyed by them. This has left me with a series of prints that hone in on the topics of consent and feminism in a new and in-your-face type of way.
"Mini Skirts Forever" - An iconic slogan from 1970s feminist protest posters living in the same space with the classic 1950s housewife and design from traditional punk flyers
"Ask Before You Touch" - Pulled from a 1950's advertisement for beer, this print utilizes punk era patterns and combines it with the bleeding eyes of the Virgin Mary, who not only weeps for the sins of Earth, but also the pain of herself and other women in this life.
"Shhh... The Girls Are Talking" - As a reformation of a 1950s tampon advertisement, this print comes alive with the patterns, chaos, and, and collage-like effect of the punk movement.
